This one did me under. I just finished writing Mr. Perfect Mess. This was by far the most intense experience I had writing any novel because of the dark undertones involved in writing something that will break a character. I had to dig deep for this one. Had to push myself to the edge to get this character to the other side. It was a hell of a ride. Had me feeling like I was experiencing hallucinations based on the intensity and involvement in this story.
I confess it's easy to write something like this when you yourself are going through complicated times. I am the kind of writer who bleeds a lot of truth in my stories. This story has been in me for decades. So when it came to write it, you better believe it came at me heavy like a freight train. I wrote it in fragments, then later pieced together the story like a puzzle. The story is shaped like a table. Yeah, I have a funny way to frame my stories into shapes. The first novel was a mountain. The second novel was a hill. The third novel was a braid, and now this one the table. Don't mind me and my creative brain coming up with these shapes.
But I am very proud of this story. I love it. It comes from a special place in my heart. As complicated and devastating as this story is, it is worth the ride. There is beauty in that chaos. Nothing like a perfect mess.
